The 22nd ArtSpeaks session was conducted on Aug. 24th, 2024. In order to emphasize the links between education and the arts, the textures (Collage) were used in this fourth session of a planned series, aimed to raise public interest in and knowledge of art education through these free of cost workshops. |

Our 21st ArtSpeaks session took place on April 20th, 2024, and it was the third in a series that aims to explore the relationships between education and the arts. With a focus on the innovative use of natural materials, this series aims to raise public awareness and pique interest in art education. |
WONDERS OF THE WORLD OF ART, SERIES 2 | 26th Aug. 2023
On August 26th, 2023, we held our 20th ArtSpeaks session, marking the second workshop in a series dedicated to exploring the deep connections between art and learning. Centered around the theme of colors, this workshop aimed to raise awareness and spark interest in art education among the general public. |
IN CONVERSATION WITH SHALAKA DESHMUKH: HOW AN EXPERIENCED EDUCATOR FOUND MEANING IN HER TEACHING PRACTICE | 23rd June 2023
The 19th ArtSpeaks session was held on 23rd June 2023. Our first impact study on Shalaka Deshmukh has been written to chronicle the journey of our past-EdSparks participants. The objectives of this session were to showcase the contributions of visual art within a given educational setting, highlight the role of ASF in capacity building organizations and their teams, and ignite a deep appreciation for the arts in education. |
BOOK DESIGN: IN THE SHOES OF AN AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR | 29th April 2023 & 27th May 2023
We conducted our 18th ArtSpeaks session on 29th April and re-offered it on 27th May 2023 virtually. The session provided participants from various backgrounds an opportunity to experience the process of design thinking and art integration strategies. |
WONDERS OF THE WORLD OF ART, SERIES 1 | 11th Feb. 2023
We conducted our 17th ArtSpeaks session on Feb. 11th, 2023. This was the first in the series of workshops that will focus on highlighting the interconnections between art and learning. These free workshops will be directed towards building a general understanding and excitement among participants and highlight the various facets and potential of the arts. |
BUILD A STORY | DEC 3RD 2022
We conducted our 16th ArtSpeaks session with fascinating little storytellers at the Bangalore Literature Festival. The ArtSparks Team had an opportunity to engage over 50 children. And in the process, enabled parents to witness firsthand the power of the visual arts to move children beyond passive listening, and instead, actively involve them in creating and sharing their own stories. |
BOOK TALK & A RENEWED EXPERIENCE WITH ART | 6TH AUG 2022
The 15th ArtSpeaks session was conducted on Aug. 6th, 2022 at Champaca Bookstore, Library and Cafe, Bengaluru. We had a lovely group of individuals come in to meet the author of 'Art Sparks: Ideas. Methods. Process' - Nisha Nair, the Founder and Executive Director of ArtSparks Foundation, who shared their experiences with art and encountered art in a renewed and meaningful way! |
CULTIVATING CREATIVE RISK TAKING THROUGH VISUAL ART | MAY 21ST 2022
We conducted our 14th ArtSpeaks session on May 21, 2022. Through this hands-on session and interactive discussion, the participants explored how the skill of creative risk-taking can be developed through the process of art-making. We had a very high-spirited and enthusiastic group of participants who joined in virtually. The participants got an opportunity to push themselves to think beyond the conventional way of looking at things and came up with their own unique and original ideas where they created their own imaginary trees! |
WHO AM I? - DISCOVERING SELF THROUGH ART | SEPT 4TH 2021
Through this hands-on session, the participants explored the Social-Emotional Skill of Self-Awareness through the process of art-making. We had a vibrant and diverse group of participants from across India. The participants got an opportunity to deeply reflect on themselves - their characteristics and strengths, and finally create their own self-portrait collages! |
STORIES OF CHANGE | 21ST AUG 2021
Art can add tremendous value to children’s growth, learning and development. Through EdSparks Collective – ArtSparks’ annual professional development program, we empower other educators and non-profit administrators, working with children and youth from different communities, with the knowledge and tools to implement robust and transformative art education interventions. FOSTERING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING THROUGH ART | 30TH JULY 2021
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is essential to children’s well-being. From effective problem-solving to self-discipline, from impulse control to emotion management and more, SEL provides a foundation for positive, long-term effects on children, adults, and communities. Especially during these changing and challenging times due to the pandemic, our children are going through a lot of emotional distress. So, it is important that we look at SEL with renewed vigor to help children to cope with this difficult period. MAKING LEARNING VISIBLE IN THE ART ROOM | 25TH JUNE 2021
Well-designed learning experiences in the visual arts enable children to exercise their fine and gross motor skills, foster curiosity through exploration of materials, discover and learn new things through investigation, nurture their imagination, develop language skills, build confidence and be independent. In this session, we explored different tools & strategies to document the rich learning happening in the art rooms and make it visible to parents, teachers, school administrators, educational officials, and so on. ROLE OF ART & ARTISTS IN SOCIETY | 28 May 2021
The session featured Sumona Chakravarty and Nilanjan Das of Hamdasti Collective, a Kolkata-based artists collective. The discussion focussed on exploring the transformative power of visual arts to empower communities and build meaningful collaborations. UNMASKING SELF THROUGH ART - 2 DAY ONLINE WORKSHOP | APRIL 24 & MAY 1, 2021
The 2-day online workshop offered participants a nuanced understanding of the learning embedded in art experiences, and their meaningful impact on children and adults. We had a vibrant and diverse group of participants from across India. They were from diverse professional backgrounds including technology, sports, academics, social sector, etc. The participants got an opportunity to reflect on themselves and explore the potential of visual arts through a unique process of art-making. |

The January 2021 session of ArtSpeaks, our first for the new year, featured Lindsay Erben, an early childhood educator and expert who currently serves as Director of the new Arts Institute of Middlesex County in New Jersey. Our discussion with Ms. Erben was focused on identifying problematic, yet commonplace, practices in early childhood art education, understanding why these practices are perpetuated, and identifying ways to explore ways to provide purposeful learning experiences for young children through the visual arts. LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH ART - DEC. 19, 2020
Language and communication have close ties to art-making. Through this session, we explored numerous ways in which language and literacy skills can be developed in children using the power of storytelling through the medium of visual arts. We had a guest appearance by Ruchi Dhona, Founder of Let's Open a Book, who shared her bookmaking project stories from Spiti valley. |
